Camping on Great Barrier Island

During the summer months camping in tents becomes popular on Great Barrier Island with many people keen to camp under the stars in tents ranging in style from tiny to large. Last summer a camping couple stayed with us in a tent equipped with its own beer fridge and gazebo!

Camp facilities

Camping guests share the kitchen, showers, and toilets at the adjacent backpackers accommodation lodge. Tents in our camp site are located close to all the facilities with room for approx. 14 tents.

Camping Great Barrier Island costs

Camping cost is $12.00 per person per night, no charge for your tent! If you are sick of camp food or cooking wander up to our restaurant and bar , or take a snack back to your tent. We make sure we have meals for every budget.

Pick up from the Great Barrier Island's Tryphena wharf and Claris airport is by arrangement, with transport available daily to beaches, walking tracks and shops. If you are travelling round the island we can recommend the best places to pitch your tent. There is nowhere to hire tents on the island.
